The APC/Crisco National Pie Championships are being held April 26-28 in Orlando and, as is tradition, the APC Great American Pie Festival sponsored by Crisco follows on April 27-28 in Celebration, Fla. Haven’t been? This is one food fest (in the true sense of the word) you’ll want to add to your family’s traditions.
The National Pie Championships pit professionals and home bakers in competition for bragging rights and some great prizes. Over 800 pies were entered last year and 2013 promises to be even bigger with new categories for home bakers. Entry forms and pie categories for each division are available on the APC website, www.piecouncil.org.
Once all the ribbons have been awarded more than 39,000 pie lovers are expected to descend on downtown Celebration, Fl for the Great American Pie Festival. Admission to the festival is free, there are some great food options and exhibits, but the highlight is the never ending pie buffet (which does require admission). Last year they served 90,000 delicious slices of pie.
